Institutional Scholarships and Grants

Scholarships and grants are types of Financial Aid that do not need to be repaid and can be an important part of your college financial planning. Our Financial Aid staff will assist you with identifying and applying for the scholarships and/or grants for which you may qualify.

2019 EARLY ACCEPTANCE SCHOLARSHIP

Value: up to $10,000 for bachelor’s degree-seeking students and up to $5,000 for associate degree-seeking students

Eligibility: Applicants, graduating High School in 2019, who meet the following criteria in accordance with the stated deadlines may be eligible to receive the Early Acceptance Scholarship:

  • December 31, 2018: Submit complete application
  • Gain acceptance for Summer or Fall 2019 Enrollment
  • January 15, 2019: Submit complete Enrollment materials
  • Complete Financial Aid Process, if applying for Federal Aid
  • Attend at least one Flashpoint event by April 30, 2019.**
    • Accepted Student Day
    • Hero’s Journey Workshops
    • Open House
  • Submit a $250 deposit
  • Beyond Academic Year (AY) 1, for continued eligibility, students must be in good standing (academically and institutionally) with the school as well as enroll for 16 quarter credits* per term in their program.

** Does not include admissions interview or campus tour.

Distribution:

  • Amounts distributed over four years for a bachelor’s program
    • AY1: $2,500
    • AY2: $2,500
    • AY3: $2,500
    • AY4: $2,500 for a total of $10,000
  • Amounts distributed over two years for an associate program
    • AY1: $2,500
    • AY2: $2,500 for a total of $5,000

FLASHPOINT SUMMER 2019 KICKSTART SCHOLARSHIP

Value:  $2000

Eligibility:

  • Must demonstrate academic potential
  • First Term students beginning matriculation at Flashpoint in July 2019
  • Must be enrolled for 16 quarter credits per term*

Distribution: 

  • Applied in three equal installments within the first academic year
2019 FLASHPOINT OPPORTUNITY GRANT

Flashpoint is pleased to offer a needs-based, institutional grant for students to be enrolled at Flashpoint during the 2019 calendar year.

Value: $2000

Eligibility:

  • First Term students only
  • Demonstrate financial need according to the below requirements
  • Must be Pell Grant eligible
  • Students must have a post-verification (if selected) Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of 1,000 or below.

Distribution: 

  • Applied in three equal installments within the first academic year
FLASHPOINT ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP

Value: up to $20,000 total for bachelor’s degree-seeking students or up to $6,000 total for associate degree-seeking students

Eligibility:

  • First Term students will automatically be considered for this merit-based scholarship.
  • An unweighted CGPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale from most recently attended accredited institution
  • Must be enrolled for 16 quarter credits per term*
  • Beyond Academic Year (AY) 1, for continued eligibility, students must maintain a CGPA of 3.0 or higher each term at Flashpoint

Distribution:

  • Amounts distributed over four years for a bachelor’s program
    • AY1: $2,000
    • AY2: $4,000
    • AY3: $6,000
    • AY4: $8,000 for a total of $20,000
  • Amounts distributed over two years for an associate program
    • AY1: $2,000
    • AY2: $4,000 for a total of $6,000
  • Amounts prorated based on any incoming transfer credit.

For example, if an incoming student has four quarters remaining to complete an associate program, the maximum Achievement Scholarship amount awarded could be $3,334 ($667 in quarter one funding + $667 quarter two funding + $666 in quarter three funding + $1,334 in quarter funding).

YELLOW RIBBON GI EDUCATION ENHANCEMENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Flashpoint participates in the Yellow Ribbon Scholarship Program to assist new and continuing veteran students in funding their education. Under the Yellow Ribbon Program, Flashpoint coordinates with the Veterans Benefit Administration (VBA) to ensure full coverage of a veteran’s institutional charges from the College.

Value: Flashpoint provides an institutional scholarship matched by the VA to ensure that the student’s tuition and fees are covered 100% despite the annual cap set by the VA.

Eligibility: In order to access this benefit, a veteran must qualify into the 100% coverage tier of the Chapter 33 Benefits Program.

Flashpoint is pleased to announce program-specific, portfolio-based scholarships for incoming students who demonstrate early initiative and creative potential through a collection of work.  The chart below outlines submission deadlines and decision dates for all terms.

FUTURE FILMMAKER SCHOLARSHIP

Value: up to $10,000

Eligibility:

  • First Term Students only
  • Students must provide samples of their own creative work meeting the published criteria to be reviewed by the Flashpoint Scholarship Committee.
  • Award recipients must enroll for 16 quarter credits per term*
  • Submit a $250 deposit prior to submission of work samples

Distribution:

  • Applied in three equal installments within the first completed academic year

Submission Guidelines:

  • Demonstrate creativity, skill, and collaboration in the area of film through work samples that meet the below criteria
  • Portfolios will be judged based on the student’s vision as evidenced by originality and clarity of story, technical ability, and overall production quality.

Criteria for Film Work submissions must include:

  • Minimum one-page write-up that describes the following:
    • the applicant’s specific contribution to the work
    • the inspiration for the piece
    • the aesthetic and creative concepts for the piece
  • Five pieces of work submitted according to the below specifications:

Your portfolio can include any of the following:

    • Films: Duration: 10 minutes or under (File format .mov)
    • Still Photographs: (File format .jpg or .PDF)
    • Screenplays, Written Stories, Essays: (File format .PDF)
    • Storyboards accompanied by Shot List: (File format .jpg or .PDF)
EMERGING ENGINEER SCHOLARSHIP

Value: up to $10,000

Eligibility:

  • First Term students only  
  • Students must provide samples of their own creative work meeting the published criteria to be reviewed by the Flashpoint Scholarship Committee.
  • Award recipients must enroll for 16 quarter credits per term*
  • Submit a $250 deposit prior to submission of work samples

Distribution:

  • Applied in three equal installments within the first completed academic year

Submission Guidelines:

  • Demonstrate creativity, skill, and collaboration in the area of recording arts through work samples that meet the below criteria
  • Deliver one of the following:
    • a portfolio of personally recorded and/or mixed songs or instrumentals
    • a portfolio of original sound design work for film, theater, other media
    • a portfolio of mixed music/sound design

Criteria for Music Submissions must include:

  • Minimum one-page write-up that describes the following:
  • the applicant’s specific contribution to the work
  • instrumentation of the songs
  • the approach to these recordings/mixes/designs
  • music selections/songs with a minimum of 3-minutes in length

There are no musical style criteria. However, music that incorporates recording with mixing human voice and/or physical instruments will take precedence over use of electronic instruments/softsynths.

Must be in accordance with the below specifications:

  • File Format: Stereo .wav
  • Minimum 16-bit
  • 44.1 kHz

Criteria for Sound Design Submissions must include:

  • Minimum one-page write-up that describes the following:
  • the applicant’s specific contribution to the work
  • the aesthetic and creative concepts behind the creator’s design
  • original work only that is of sufficient length to show quality and creativity

Must be in accordance with the below specifications:

  • Sound design for visual media
    • File format: .mov
  • Original sound design not synced to visual media:
  • File Format: Stereo .wav
  • Minimum 16-bit
  • 44.1 kHz
DIGITAL ART AND COMMUNICATIONS PIXEL PUSHER SCHOLARSHIP

Value: up to $10,000

Eligibility:

  • First Term students only
  • Students must provide samples of their own creative work meeting the published criteria to be reviewed by the Flashpoint Scholarship Committee.
  • Award recipients must enroll for 16 quarter credits per term*
  • Submit a $250 deposit prior to submission of work samples

Distribution:

  • Applied in three equal installments within the first completed academic year

Criteria for Graphic Design and Interactive Media Submissions must include:

  • 7-10 pieces of work
  • File Format: .PPT or .PDF
  • Work done by the applicant— can be traditional art, photography or design work

Criteria for Digital Art and Animation Submissions must include: 

  • 7-10 pieces of work
  • File Format: .PPT or .PDF
  • Work done by the applicant— can be traditional art, photography or design work
  • If the piece is animated, please submit a Vimeo link to a hosted version of the video file.
2019 FLASHPOINT ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP

A special scholarship aimed at recognizing alumni achievements and in support of their future education and career goals.

Value: $5,000

Eligibility:

  • Graduates of Flashpoint who completed matriculation by December 2018 or earlier
  • Awardees must enroll in a second Flashpoint program and enroll for 16 quarter credits per term*

Distribution:

  • Applied in three equal installments within the first year of enrollment into a Flashpoint on-ground or online bachelor’s program

Note for Flashpoint Graduates Continuing their Education at the College in 2019

In the event that a Flashpoint student graduates from an associate program and enters a bachelor’s level program within the 2019 calendar year, the student will receive either the Achievement or Alumni Scholarship. The award determination will be based on the continuing graduate’s eligibility for each award and will take into consideration which scholarship provides the greater financial benefit to the student.

FLASHPOINT PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Flashpoint is pleased to announce the Presidential Scholarship to be awarded to students who demonstrate achievement in academics throughout their tenure at Flashpoint.

Value: up to $10,000 per academic year

Eligibility:

  • Students must have cumulative GPA of 3.7 or above
  • Students must have successfully completed 36 Quarter Credit Hours or 24 Trimester Credit Hours or a combination equaling the same

Distribution:

  • Applied in three equal installments during the student’s awarded academic year

Submission Guidelines:

  • Students wishing to apply must submit an essay discussing their future goals and how this scholarship will help them reach those goals.  Essays should be a minimum of 750 words.
  • Students must submit a letter of recommendation from a full time faculty member.
  • Complete submissions should be emailed to flashpoint.presidentialscholarship@columbiacollege.edu
  • Awardees will be determined by committee review.
  • Submissions are accepted at any time during the academic year.

Flashpoint reserves the right to withhold the scholarship in any year in which, at the sole discretion of the scholarship committee, suitable candidates cannot be found among applicants. Final scholarship awards are at sole discretion of the Flashpoint Scholarship Committee.
